C.J. Campbell - Head Coach - 3rd Season
After completing his first year as the Interim Head Men's Wrestling Coach for the Jamestown College Jimmies, CJ Campbell earned the right to have the Interim tag removed from his title. With only 15 wrestlers on the roster when Campbell took over the program in September, he was able to produce four national qualifiers, one All-American with the 3rdplace finish (Pat Nord), and an Academic All-American (Junior Sam Brown). Bringing in a recruiting class of 22 new wrestlers, Campbell is excited to see what he can do with this year's team.
Campbell was brought on the Jamestown College Wrestling staff in January of 2011 as the Head Assistant Wrestling Coach for both the Men's and Women's wrestling teams. Campbell took over the reigns as the Interim Head Men's Wrestling Coach after the college agreed to separate the Men's and Women's Wrestling Team with two Head Coaches.
Prior to coming to Jamestown College, Campbell worked as the Athletic Director, Guidance Counselor, PE Teacher, and Head Cross Country Coach at Dodson Public Schools in Dodson, Montana. A literal stranger to the sport of Cross Country, Campbell was able to lead the Dodson Cross Country Team to a 2nd place finish at the Class C Montana State High School Cross Country Meet. Campbell was also the Athletic Director at Harlem High School in Harlem, MT. He was the Head Wrestling Coach and at Shelley High School in Shelley, Idaho, where he produced 6 state qualifiers and 3 state placers. He was also the Strength and Conditioning Coach at Shelley High School, helping to train their basketball and golf teams who were state champions that year. He was the Assistant Wrestling Coach for Blackfoot High School in Blackfoot, ID, and the Head Freshman Wrestling Coach at Hazelwood Central High School in St. Louis, MO. In 2007 Campbell was hired by the Guong Dong Institute of Sports, an Olympic Training Center in Southeast China, as their Strength and Conditioning Coach for a period of 3 months to help prepare their athletes for the 2008 Olympic Games. He was a Personal Trainer for Apple Athletic Club in Idaho Falls, ID, and the Personal Training Director for Bally Total Fitness in St. Louis, MO.
As a wrestler, Coach Campbell was a 2X NAIA All-American, National finalist, and Regional Champion for Lindenwood University. He was a 2X NJCAA All-American for Southwestern Oregon Community College. In high school, Campbell was a state Champion, 2X state finalist, 4X state placer (never placing lower than 3rd at the state tournament), and a 2X district champion. Campbell also competed at the Regional Olympic Trials in 1999 and at the US Nationals in 2006 and 2007. Campbell saw success in other sports including Mixed Martial Arts fighting with a 3-0 record, and was a top rusher in the Rocky Mountain Football League while playing for the Idaho Falls Mustangs (a semi-pro football team).
Jamestown College has had a strong tradition in wrestling. In 1984 and 1985 the Jimmies brought home 2nd and 3rd place team trophies consecutively at the NAIA National Wrestling Tournament. 4 National Champions and 41 Jimmies have been crowned All-Americans in Jimmie Wrestling History. Jimmie Wrestlers have also earned success in the classroom accumulating 16 Academic All-American honors as well. Jamestown College has also hosted the NAIA National Wrestling Tournament in 1985, 1989, 1995, 1996, and 1997. Campbell says, "I intend to help that continue and expand upon that tradition of success."
